Daniel stood up and walked to the dance floor.
William scanned the room. It seemed he and Casey were the only people not drinking
alcohol. William didn't mind. He thought back to the time he danced at Eric's going
away party and hoped he would never drink enough to dance again.
An older couple stopped by William's table. He didn't recognize either of them.
They could have been friends with his grandparents or worked with his father.
“Hello, William,” the man said.
“Hello,” William responded. “This is Casey.”
Casey nodded her head.
“When are you two going to get married?” the woman asked.
“We get married after comrade William—” Casey said with a flawless Russian accent.
She paused and squeezed William's thigh. “—gets divorced from Russian bride. Then
we marry and I become citizen.”
“Oh,” the woman responded.
“Yes,” William added. “I'm solving world peace one mail order bride at a time.”
After the father-daughter dance, both Daniel and Willow sat down at the table with
William and Casey.
“I believe this table is for Furthers only,” William said. “You're a Kerns now.”
“That may be so,” Willow responded. “But I haven't changed my name yet. Plus, I'm
the bride and can sit wherever I want.”
She stuck her tongue out.
“Plus, Casey's not a Further so if I have to get up, she does too,” Willow added.
“Well,” Casey interrupted. “Will and I got married on our second date. The movie we
wanted to see was sold out. It was either get married or watch Transformers.”
Everyone at the table stared at Casey.
