Chapter V
March 27th, 1999
William and Casey arrived at the Video Coop after six. The store felt livelier than
usual, though William had worked a few day shifts so far. They’d already stopped at
the grocery store to buy ingredients for the homemade pancakes. As they entered the
store, Casey told him, “We’ll get two movies. You pick one and I pick one.”
“I will do my best,” William responded.
“If it isn’t the Furthereses,” Dave said from behind the counter with his best
psychotic look. “What brings you into the Coop on a lovely Saturday night?”
“Why, Dave 1,” Casey replied. “We are here to browse your collection of films for
viewing on our personal home theaters.” She’d gotten in the habit of encouraging
Dave’s behavior. William rolled his eyes.
Dave grinned. “Someone finally gets it. Thank you, Casey. I’ll make sure that David
never speaks badly of you again.”
“You better, Dave 1,” Casey said. “Or else you’ll be downgraded to Dave 3.”
Customers had lined up, so Dave wasn’t able to joke around as much as usual.
Casey wandered off while William headed to the new release section. By the time he
reached the Bs, she’d already checked three different sections.
He heard her gasp. She ran up with a case in her hand. “Oh, they finally have it
in. I am so excited. I haven’t seen this movie in years!” She spun around, giddy.
“What movie?” William asked.
