Chapter XXVII
July 6, 2024
William couldn't believe he wore a tie. He hadn't worn one since his wedding back
in 2006.
He stood alone in a corner of the gallery. Casey spoke with the director. She had
been chosen to be the first featured artist. Twenty of her paintings were hung
around the small gallery. William wasn't sure how the lighting of the gallery
seemed natural and alien at the same time.
There wasn't any seating but there were five round tables which were waist high so
the guests could set their drinks and hors d'oeuvres on. They had arrived early
since Casey was the featured artist, so the drinks and appetizers weren't being
passed out.
The exhibit started the previous Monday on the first of the month but the party
honoring the featured artist was on the first Saturday.
William had never been to an art show before and wasn't sure what to expect. He
didn't know if Casey needed to make a speech or if she mingled with guests and
tried to sell her paintings.
The event acted as their first official outing as a couple. Sam had made it through
eighth grade and would start high school next school year. Casey became more
comfortable and came around when his kids were over for the week.
