“I dreamed of you. Ever since I was seventeen,” she admitted.

William couldn’t respond. They met a couple of years ago. He was helping with his
son’s school play. She couldn’t have dreamed of him.

“So much has changed,” she told him. “We keep meeting later and later. In my head,
I can see it. We met in the hallway in high school.”

He stared at her, confused.

“We skipped school,” she told him. “But we never did that. Did we?”

“In my dreams, we hit it off. But my memory of it. I was walking down the hallway
alone. You weren’t there.”

A tear fell from her eye.

“I don't know how or why,” she said as another tear raced down her cheek.
“Something’s happening. It was supposed to start then. ”

William wanted to look away from her.

“Are you doing something that changes things?”

He wanted to pretend that she wasn’t there with him.

“Please tell me.”

Pretend it was a dream. He didn’t want her to feel like he had when his father
died.

“We need to make it right,” she said. “For May.”

William felt another tear hit his ear.

“You need to find me. You need to approach me in the hallway, Will!” she told him.
“In the hallway. Remember!”

William took another breath. He could hear sirens in the distance, getting closer.

“I’ll whistle!” she said. “Or hum. The same song I always do. ‘Fade Into You’.
Remember that!”
