dinner and we can finish gluing cotton balls or we continue the game and I can brag
about how much better I am with balls.”
William smiled.
“Cotton balls,” Casey said, breaking out into laughter.
“You know what?” William said. “I am going to save you from humiliation and buy you
dinner. I don't want to beat you on your home turf in front of your co-workers.”
“Well,” Casey said with a giggle. “Aren't you quite the gentleman?”
“Well, I am,” William told her. “You can order anything off of the dollar menu at
McDonald's.”
“I would but they got rid of that years ago,” she informed him. “I'm more of a
lobster type woman though.”
“Fair enough,” William said.
They spent the next thirty minutes talking and getting to know each other. They
found out that they both attended the same Monkees concert back in the 1980s. They
also went to high school together but never met. Casey did remember his friend
David Bauer being in a few of his classes. She was in contact with Lisa Carter,
whom David had dated until a few years after college.
Another parent approached them.
“Hey, the drama teacher wants to test out the dragon,” he told them.
“Test it out?” William asked.
“Yeah, they're going to put it on pulleys and it's supposed to fly across the
stage,” the parent responded.
“Okay, it will be ready in a moment,” Casey told the parent.
The parent left to let the drama teacher know. Casey ran to her purse and pulled
out her phone. She pressed the screen a few times then turned to William.
