The officer paused.
“Maternity leave,” he finished.
Emily was called and was in the Walmart breakroom within twenty minutes.
The first thing she did after entering the room was grab Sasha from the car seat.
She held her child tightly against her chest and said, “Mommy’s here, little
princess.”
William saw a tear roll down her cheek. He wasn’t sure if he should be scared of
what her reaction would be. He didn’t know if she would blame him for the
situation. He didn’t feel like he had done anything wrong. He did prevent the
Walmart employees from letting the crazy woman breastfeed their child so if she did
lash out, he could use that to make it not look so bad.
“Yes, this is my child,” Emily told the officers. “I want this woman arrested. She
tried to kidnap my baby.”
Emily appeared calm. No anger. Just calmly telling the officers to arrest the
woman.
“William,” she said, turning and walking out of the break room.
William grabbed the car seat and followed his wife.
“I’m sorry,” William told her.
“I don’t blame you for this,” she responded. “But this wouldn’t have happened if
you would have just went to Target.”
“I...” William started but stopped when he realized he didn’t have a rebuttal.
