“Okay, let’s change the subject.”
“Hmm. What subject should we converse about next?” she asked.
“I don’t know.”
“Maybe leaky faucets?” Casey teased. “A roaring river? A water fall?”
“I’m not going to pee my pants!” William exclaimed a little too loudly.
“Well not with that attitude,” Casey said, giggling.
“Casey!” a voice came from the direction of the exit of the haunted house.
William heard Casey sigh.
“Hello, Michael,” Casey said flatly.
“I didn’t know you liked this sort of thing,” Michael told her.
“Well, I’m broadening my horizons,” she responded.
“This must be the boyfriend,” Michael said, turning his attention to William.
“With a capital T,” Casey informed him.
“Yes, a capital T,” William continued with the bit. “My parents never told me why
they named me The but I got used to it after a couple decades.”
“Okay,” Michael replied. “I’ve got to get going. Papers to grade, you know.”
Casey nodded without saying another word to the man.
“Who was that?” William asked.
“Michael Spencer,” she told him. “He’s an English teacher at the school. He asked
me out last week.”
“He asked you out?” William asked, perplexed that someone would ask his girlfriend
out.
“Yes,” she responded. “I told him that I have a boyfriend so he shouldn’t be asking
me out again.”
William looked at her.
