William took a quick shower and started getting ready. By the time he was dressed,
David and Eric had arrived.
Eric sat on the couch, sweating as he went over a printout of the wedding ceremony
script, visibly more anxious than William felt.
David calmly chatted with Willow.
“Looking good, William,” David said. “Are you prepared to get married?”
“I hope so,” William replied.
“I’m going to check on the bride,” Willow said, disappearing down the hallway to
the master bedroom.
Eric returned to silently mouthing the lines of the ceremony, focused on the single
page he had to recite. William and David watched as he moved his lips soundlessly.
William wondered if Eric might accidentally whisper his way through the actual
ceremony.
Dressed all in black, Eric appeared to be a priest, only missing the white clerical
collar.
William’s father and grandmother arrived next. Patty gave William a long hug as he
helped her out of her coat.
“I’m so happy for you two, William,” she said. “I can’t wait to become a
great-grandmother. Though I think I’m a bit too young for that.”
“You’re like a hundred years old, Grandma,” William joked.
She smacked his arm. “Hush.”
His father shook hands with David and Eric before giving William a small hug. A
camera hung from Daniel’s neck; he’d volunteered to be the wedding photographer.
Neither William nor Casey had considered having pictures taken, so he appreciated
the gesture.
