“We can call the courthouse. See if they allow that many people,” William offered.

“I’ll call Monday,” Casey said with a sigh. “This is getting more complicated than
I thought.”

“I can’t believe you guys are getting married,” Willow said.

“I can’t either,” Casey replied. She turned to William. “I wish you were working
right now. May wants a cherry slushie.”

William knew May was the name they had picked for their child. Casey had become
addicted to slushies from the gas station where he worked. She brought her own cup
and he never charged her. They couldn’t track how much slushie mix was used anyway.

“I’ll go get one,” William offered.

“Well, that would be wonderful, fiancé,” Casey said.

He left to pick up her drink. He couldn’t believe he was getting married. He would
have a daughter in two weeks.

He reminded himself to call David tomorrow. Then he thought of Eric, who had
enlisted in the Army and was leaving for basic training after the new year. His
going-away party was next weekend, and William needed to invite him too.

All of Casey’s friends had gone to college out of town. Willow had become her best
friend by default. William was sure if Casey reached out to Abby or any of her old
friends, they’d come back for the wedding.

He hoped everything worked out. The wedding. The baby. The future.

“Oh my God,” he whispered, realizing how close it all was.
