painted there too. She rubbed her nose, smearing blue paint across her hand.

“I want to get married before the baby is born,” she said.

“Are you sure?” William asked. “You used to say it was just a piece of paper.”

“I’m sure,” Casey said. “I’ve thought about it. I love you. I want to be your
wife.”

“Okay,” William said. “Do we have time to plan a wedding?”

“The courthouse is fine. We can go next week on your day off.”

“Do we need other people there? Like a best man?” William asked.

“I don’t remember how my previous three courthouse marriages went,” Casey teased.
“It was all such a blur.”

Willow stood in the doorway, watching.

“Well, we can bring a couple friends. You bring a best man. I’ll have a maid of

Casey turned to Willow. “Will you be my maid of honor?”

“Yes!” Willow squealed, loud enough to alert the neighbors. She ran to hug Casey.
“I can’t believe I’m finally getting a sister.” Tears rolled down her cheeks.

“And I can’t believe I just got proposed to by a Care Bear,” William said, but
neither heard him.

“We’ll need rings,” Casey said. “Maybe we can hit up some pawn shops?”

“That sounds like a plan.”

“Grandma and Dad are going to be upset if they’re not invited,” Willow said.

“Should we invite them too?” William asked, pushing the box against the wall.

“If we invite them, we need to invite my parents too. Although I’m not sure Bob
would come.”
