starting up. William realized it had been a while since he’d last noticed the
music. With prom ending, Casey had one hour left before she had to go home.
He didn't want the night to end.
“Let’s wait for the cars to clear out,” Casey said, her head resting on his chest.
William didn’t respond and remained gazing up at the night sky.
They lay in silence for the next thirty minutes. On occasion, Casey ran her hand
across his neck. William felt content with how the night had turned out. He no
longer had any interest in going to an after-party.
Casey sat up. “It's time to go, my beast.”
William stood and noticed another grass stain, this time on the front of his dress
shirt. He hoped it would come out before he had to return it.
“Good thing I’m wearing a dark green dress,” Casey said. “It’s like I planned for
this to happen.”
William smiled and kissed her.
They walked to his car at a snail's pace. A few vehicles remained in the parking
lot. David’s car was nowhere to be found. William wondered if they had managed to
find a party.
They arrived at Casey’s house ten minutes before midnight. They kissed a few more
times, but Casey soon noticed her father watching from the window.
“Bob is watching,” she murmured.
William sighed. Casey got out of the car, and he decided to follow, walking her to
the door.
“I had a great night, Will,” she said.
She placed her hand on his chest, about to kiss him, but her father spied on them
from the window.
