“I haven’t decided yet. We’ll see if the movie I want is in,” he replied.

“Well, don’t ask me. I don’t know how to do anything except rewind tapes.”

“I suppose that’s a good skill to have,” David mused.

“Where’s Eric at?” William asked. They almost always came in together, having been
next-door neighbors since birth.

“He’s actually speaking with a guy about enlisting in the army. He talked about it
a few times, but I thought he was just joking,” David said.

“Wait, he was serious?” William asked, stunned. Eric’s laid-back personality didn’t
exactly scream military service.

“I know. I tried talking him out of it, but he said he doesn’t know what he wants
to do and feels kind of aimless, so maybe it is the right choice for him.”

“Maybe,” William said quietly.

“Dave!” Ed shouted.

They both turned toward the Adults Only room and broke out in laughter.

“So have you and Casey done anything lately?” David asked.

“Not for a few days. She’s had the flu,” William responded. It had only been a few
days, but he missed her. He tried calling her house after school yesterday, but she
didn’t answer.

“That’s been going around. I think there were like fifteen kids sick yesterday,”
David said. “Are you planning anything for her birthday? You said it was next week,
right?”

Before William could answer, Dave, no longer wearing the necktie, burst out of the
Adults Only room.

“Did I hear it was the temptress’s birthday next week?”

“Yes, you did hear that,” William replied, unsure of what was coming.
