“And Dad knew it!” she said, slapping his arm.
William pretended the slap hurt.
“I'm telling Dad,” he joked.
“Ha!” Willow chuckled. “Dad would take my side anyway. I'm his baby girl.”
“I know,” William agreed with a laugh. “You never let me forget it.”
Danny stood on the slide with his legs stretched to each side. Sam lay down and
slid down between them.
“You guys be careful!” his sister shouted. “One of you will get hurt!”
Danny walked down the slide, giving his mother a dirty look.
“Are you prepared?” Willow asked. “Having the house all to yourself most of the
day?”
“No,” he responded. “But I'm hoping I can finally get caught up on my stories.”
“I don't think they make soap operas anymore, brother,” she informed him.
“I guess I'm not prepared then,” he confessed.
“Well,” she began. “If you need something to do, Jeremy's company is hiring a
quality assessor. From what he said, it's a pretty easy job. You listen to calls
all day and grade them.”
“That sounds right up my alley,” William responded.
“And it's work from home,” she added. “You can stay in your pajamas!”
William watched Sasha trying to stop Patricia from eating sand.
“I am definitely in then,” he responded.
“Does this feel weird?” she asked.
“What?”
“Did you ever imagine that we...” she paused. “...would be each other's best
friends?”
