The whistling stopped.

“Salvador Dali,” the woman said. “Good choice.”

“Thanks,” William replied, flipping pages without looking at them.

“Are you an artist?” she asked.

“I’m not,” he said. “Just looking for inspiration for decorating my apartment.”

“Well, Dali’s a good choice if you’re looking for artwork for your walls,” she
said. “You could also look at Magritte.” She pointed to another book.

“I’ll definitely check that out,” William said, knowing he wouldn’t.

“Looking for a lot of artwork?”

“Honestly,” he said, “I’m just wandering around and thought about redecorating.”

“Wandering around Barnes and Noble on a Friday night?” she asked, raising an
eyebrow.

“Yeah,” William said. “I just got engaged, and my girl, my fiancée, wanted to look
at wedding magazines.”

“Oh,” her expression shifted. “Well, congratulations.”

She set her book down and walked away.

William sighed and returned the Dali book to the shelf before heading back to the
magazine section.

Emily had seven magazines stacked and was ready to check out.

“We could just get married at the courthouse,” William said.

“William Further, I would never get married at the courthouse,” she said in a
matter-of-fact manner.

“It was just a suggestion.”

“I am going to have the biggest wedding this town has ever seen,” she said.

William gulped, wondering what he’d gotten himself into.
