William stood up quickly. A dead fish touched him.

He ran down the dock to get back to the beach but slipped and fell backwards.

The smack of his head against the dock echoed across the lake.

“It's a good thing I was here to save you,” Emily said. She embraced him. He peered
over her shoulder and saw Casey, sitting cross-legged a few feet from them, humming
a song he could not place.

He felt groggy and tired. He wondered if he was lying in bed. He felt he could get
a few more hours of sleep.

He rolled over. As his eyes began closing, he could see the lake water rushing
toward him. But he was too tired to do anything about it.

As water filled his lungs, William could see a little girl lying in the water. She
was young, still a toddler. The little girl resembled Casey. Every feature reminded
him of Casey except for the eyes. The little girl had brown eyes.

Then everything went black.
