up and the clown would be a foot closer to them.

Neither of them moved.

Darkness.

Light.

A foot closer.

Darkness.

Light.

A foot closer.

The clown stopped two feet away from them.

“You’re supposed to run,” the clown told them.

“Oh,” Casey responded. “It’s kind of dark in here. I didn’t want to trip.”

“But I could kill you,” the clown pleaded. “I’m scary.”

“You sure are,” Casey told him as they began walking further into the top floor of
the haunted house.

They reached the next portion and it was all cotton stretched into spiderwebs like
at the entrance. As William brushed passed some, he could feel it was wet. He hoped
someone had spilled their drink.

With each step he could feel something crunch under his feet. It was too dark to
make out what it was. He looked at Casey. She gave him a look that confirmed she
was stepping on something too.

When they reached the middle of the room, hundreds of little plastic spiders were
dropped on them from above.

Casey jumped then laughed. William brushed the plastic spiders out of his hair.

“I wasn’t expecting that,” Casey told him.

“I’m just glad they weren’t wet,” he responded.
