with Emily on his shoulders. Even if it had only been a couple hours, Casey had
stirred something inside him he thought was long gone. He didn’t want that feeling
to go away.
“I do want you to know I would not do this for any guy. Even if they were friends
with my friend’s boyfriend.”
“Understood,” William replied. “I know we don’t really know each other but I’m not
a creep or anything.”
“Oh, it’s the opposite,” Casey advised. “I feel like I’ve known you for years.”
“Really?” William asked.
“It’s hard to explain,” she started. “It’s just.”
She stopped.
“Is everything okay?” he asked.
“Everything’s fine,” she said as she started walking again. “It’s kind of like déjà
vu. But not really déjà vu. If that makes sense.”
“It does not,” William admitted.
“Basically, it feels like we should be complete strangers. But talking to you. It’s
like you’re not a stranger. Like people shouldn’t hit it off this fast. Especially
when alcohol isn’t involved.”
“I kind of get that,” William responded. “Normally, I would probably have just
stayed quiet most of the dinner. But something came over me tonight. Not sure what
it was.”
“So you felt it too?” she asked.
“I believe so.”
“Well at least I know that I’m not going crazy,” she said as they arrived at her
car.
