Emily so he listened.
He hadn’t realized how much he needed connection. For the last year, he worked and
spent every night alone. Being around Casey brought out a part of him he didn’t
know existed.
“Well, I think it's time for us to go,” David said after finishing his beer.
“Yeah, we got that thing tomorrow morning,” Lisa added.
“Yeah, I should go too,” Casey added. “I need to finish moving into my house
tomorrow.”
William felt deflated. He didn't want the night to end. He realized he could listen
to Casey talk for hours and not get bored with it.
“Thank you for dinner,” Casey told David.
“No problem,” David said. “You can get the check next time.”
“Thanks, David,” William added.
“It was good seeing you, William,” David said, clapping him on the back. “You seem
to be doing much better.”
“I am,” William responded, though he didn't think much had changed.
The group exited the restaurant together. David and Lisa headed to his vehicle.
“It was nice meeting you,” William told Casey.
“It was nice meeting you too,” Casey responded. “I was nervous about Lisa trying to
set up us. I've never been on a blind date before.”
“They told you?” William asked, shocked.
“Wait. They didn't tell you?” Casey asked.
“No, David asked me to dinner to catch up.”
“Well, that wasn't nice,” Casey responded. “But at least you got to meet me.”
“That was the good part,” William said. “That, and David paying.”
