“Good job, May,” Casey encouraged. “Let’s do the green paint now.”
She poured the paint onto a plate, dipped May’s hand in, and said, “Now put it on
the canvas.”
Instead, May rubbed her green hand on her stomach, glanced down at it, then ran to
hug Casey.
“So glad I’m not giving her a bath tonight,” William said.
“Ha! We’re doing this all night, so you’ll have to when you get home.”
“I don’t think either of you will be up past ten.”
“Oh, I gave her so much Mountain Dew she’ll be awake for days,” Casey teased.
“She’s all yours at six.”
“Can’t wait,” he said.
“Me paint, Dada!” May screamed, running toward him. Casey caught her by the diaper.
“Dada has to work, May. We can’t get him dirty,” she said.
“Dir tee,” May echoed.
“But it’s not like he’s meeting clients at some big corporate job,” Casey said,
smirking.
“While I’d love a paint hug, I only have four pairs of pants without paint. These,”
he lifted a leg to show her, “are one of them.”
“Can’t have you down to three,” Casey said. She scooped May onto her lap. “Looks
like it’s just us having fun, huh?”
“Fun!” May shouted. “Bafroom.”
Casey glanced over and grinned.
“I’ll let you off the hook since you’re already dressed for work,” she said. “An
hour and a half early.”
She stood and took May’s hand. “Let’s go to the bathroom.”
