“That tickles!” Willow yelled through laughter.

William sighed and sat in the rocking chair from his grandmother.

He eyed the remaining boxes. The changing table had fewer parts and would be
simpler. The armoire had drawers, doors, and shelves, which were much more
complicated.

He opened the changing table box and spread out the pieces. The instructions showed
fifteen steps. He sighed. One day, they’d afford furniture which came pre-built by
professionals.

Despite the steps, the table seemed easier than the crib. He got to work. More
laughter echoed from the other room.

“This is going to be so stupid!” Willow said.

“It’s going to be awesome!” Casey yelled back.

He didn’t mind being alone in the nursery. If they were in the room with him, he
worked slower. They’d distracted him earlier. He’d put a piece of the crib on
backward and didn’t realize until he’d reached step eight. He had to take most of
it apart and return to step four.

Three steps into the changing table, the nursery door burst open, missing his face
by inches.

He glanced up. Casey and Willow stood in the doorway. Their shirts tied up to
expose their bellies. Casey’s belly looked enormous, with only two weeks left until
the due date.

Casey had two pink hearts painted on her belly like Love-A-Lot, her favorite Care
Bear. Willow had a blue cloud. Their noses were painted. Pink for Casey, blue for
Willow. Both wore sweatbands and had their hair tied into high ponytails.

“What the—” William started.
