she gave him a big hug. “I can’t wait to meet your friend. What’s her name?”
“Her name is Casey, Grandma.”
“Well, I can’t wait to meet her.” She turned to grab a present from the truck.
William closed the door, and they went inside.
Casey sat on the couch on the far end. Willow had returned and sat on the other
side, leaving the middle cushion empty.
“Grandma!” Willow called out as they entered. She didn’t get up.
William’s father carried the pizzas into the dining area. Casey stood and walked
over to Patty.
“Hello, I’m Casey Harlow,” she said as William took his grandmother’s coat. Patty
hugged her.
“It’s nice to meet you, dear,” she said warmly.
William put the coat in the closet. They all moved to the dining area. His dad
pulled out a folding chair. They only had four wooden ones. The padded wooden seats
were more comfortable. The folding chair hadn’t been used since before his
grandfather passed.
Casey hugged Daniel. “Thank you so much for inviting me, Mister Further.”
“Anyone who can keep William on the right track is always welcome here,” he
replied.
“Thank you, Mister Further.”
“Call me Daniel, Casey. You don’t have to be that formal.”
“I’ll try,” she said hesitantly. “Daniel. You have a lovely home. I love all the
pictures of your family.”
“Thanks, dear. My mother did all that. I wouldn’t have cared if all the walls were
plain white,” he chuckled as he took his seat.
