worst one!”
“Don't tell my sister that,” William said, holding up both hands like he was
stopping traffic.
“If I ever meet her, that most assuredly will be the first thing I say,” teased
Casey. “I'm Team Love-A-Lot all the way!”
Manny arrived with their breakfast. Casey appeared excited as he set the plate of
enormous pancakes in front of her. William already knew that his omelet would be
delicious.
“Let me know if you need anything,” Manny said, placing a container of syrup next
to Casey's plate.
“Thank you,” Casey said to the owner. “It looks delicious. Even more delicious now
that I know Will is going to pay for it.”
“Well, William’s quite the gentleman,” Manny said with a knowing smile.
“Thank you,” William told Manny.
Manny smiled and returned to his conversation with the man drinking coffee.
After they finished eating and Manny cleared their plates, William realized
breakfast hadn't taken up as much time as he'd hoped.
“Okay,” he began, “It's only eleven right now. We still have three and a half hours
until school gets out.”
“So, we go back to get to the next class?” Casey asked.
“Well—” William started. “It's a lot easier sneaking out than it is sneaking back
in. I think we may have to keep ourselves occupied. We would get in less trouble if
we skip the whole day instead of possibly getting caught going back.”
“So, we won't get in trouble for skipping the whole day?” Casey asked, skeptical
about the whole situation.
