His friend Dave Anderson would have made fun of him, while his other friend, David
Bauer, would have told him the benefits of approaching her while no one else at
school could see.
The blue of her eyes made him feel better than he had in the past two weeks. His
worries disappeared as she inched closer.
On impulse, he started walking toward her. He parted his lips to speak but
hesitated.
“Hey, I'm William,” he started. “I know that we don't know each other but —”
William paused, thinking about what to say. “—um. I don't feel like being here
today,” he said, searching her blue eyes, sensing something beyond explanation.
“I'm not sure how you feel about being here, but would you like to leave—maybe get
something to eat?”
He bit his tongue. He shouldn’t skip school. If David were there, he’d try to talk
him out of it. His other friends would’ve sprinted to the car without hesitation
and most of the time, William sided with them.
She hesitated before smiling. Her blue eyes narrowed. She studied him with
curiosity. She introduced herself.
“I'm Casey.” William smiled, and Casey’s grin widened. She brushed her hair. “Where
would we go?” she asked, raising an eyebrow.
“Well, I haven't decided yet,” William responded. “I guess, we can go anywhere we
want.”
As Casey chuckled, William gestured in the direction of his vehicle.
Casey raised an eyebrow and said, “Do you offer this to all the girls you meet?”
William laughed. “Nope, normally I just wouldn't have come to school. You are the
first.”
