The Hand Job

I am getting a bit ahead of myself. Though my life did get pretty boring there for a while. Which was nice. I recommend it. A boring life is wonderful.

So I’ll skip the mundane details. The parent-teacher conferences. Work. My Candy Crush or whatever game I was playing scores. You don’t care about that.

I can tell.

So we’ll skip to when things started getting interesting.

And yes, it began with seeing men in black suits wearing sunglasses.

It started with one.

I’d see him watching from across the street from my employer. I didn’t find it too weird at the time. But in hindsight, if I knew what I know now, I would have fled to Canada or Mexico. More likely Canada. I hate the cold but it is closer to where I was at the time.

But weeks after noticing the guy in the black suit and sunglasses sitting on a bench across the street, I began noticing other men in black suits wearing sunglasses.

They seemed to double every week.

First week, one. Second week, two and so on.

By the seventh week, I felt that I was in either the Matrix of Men In Black. I leaned more towards the Matrix. Though I wouldn’t put it past some aliens abducting my mother and impregnating her. It wasn’t out of the realm of possibility that I was a human-alien hybrid.

Anyway, when you begin noticing stuff like that, you do kind of go crazy. Human-alien hybrids have feelings too.

They never approached. Only seemed to watch.

Honestly, I didn’t think they were really watching me until I accidentally bumped into one at Kroger. He was standing by an endcap and I wasn’t paying attention and hit him with my cart.
