Eric opened a new beer, chugged it and said, “Watch dis guys.”

He ran onto the football field and started trying to do cartwheels. Twice he landed on his head in the exact spot the goose egg was. William assumed he was too drunk to feel pain or Eric really didn’t feel it.

Like the bleachers, the grass was wet with a mixture of slush and ice. Eric’s clothes soaked it up. He already hadn’t been dressed for the weather and now his shirt and the back of his pants were drenched.

It didn’t seem to bother Eric though. William watched as his friend ran up and down the football field. He stumbled a few times which got a laugh from both William and David.

It was only his second beer of the day but William could feel a little buzz coming on. He hadn’t eaten yet since he had been told they would be going out to lunch. Plus, he hadn’t drank very often since his children were born. He figured if he had at least two more, he’d be on the football field with Eric running around and falling onto the wet, icy grass.

William took a swig of the beer. He thought back to when he was cleaning out the house after his father died. He was looking through his old high school yearbook and saw the picture of a classmate, Casey Harlow.
