He looked around at the old elementary school that he met his friends at. It had been updated in recent years. No more metal slides or monkey bars. Everything replaced with hard colorful plastic.

“Thanks, guys,” William said to his friends.

“Come on, I got a cooler of beer in the Spit Pit,” Eric said. A goose egg had already formed on his temple.

“I thought they filled that in,” William confided as he followed Eric.

“Nah, bro,” Eric responded. “If we couldn’t fill it with spit, they wouldn’t be able to fill it with anything else.”

William didn’t understand his friend’s logic on that.

They walked around the school and stopped at the Spit Pit. It was a staircase that led down to a single door. When they were attending the elementary school back in the 1980s, there was faded graffiti that labeled it the Spit Pit. The graffiti had been removed. William wasn’t sure how long ago. He hadn’t been back to the elementary school since Willow’s fifth grade graduation.

Eric walked up the Spit Pit stairs carrying a giant cooler. William thought that Eric may have gotten more beer than they would drink.

Eric set the cooler on the ground and opened it. There were way too many beers in there, William thought. William wasn’t much of a drinker. David was driving so William knew that he wouldn’t be drinking.
