David got out of the car and after a minute, opened up the passenger side to let William out.
David grabbed William’s arm by the elbow and began guiding him to their destination.
“This seems like a bit much,” William said.
“It’ll be worth it,” David advised as he led William around the corner.
William could hear something creaking. They were still outside. William could tell that his friend was leading him to the source of the noise.
David stopped and William could feel his friend’s hand on the blindfold.
The creaking got faster.
“Are you ready?” David asked.
“Yes,” William replied.
The blindfold was removed and William saw his other friend Eric on the swing set.
When Eric got as high as he could, he jumped and tried landing on his feet.
He didn’t.
Eric landed on his face.
“Oh, shit,” David said as he ran to Eric.
William stood there in silence waiting to find out if Eric was okay. If he was okay, William knew he would break out in laughter. If Eric was hurt, then it would only be his third worst birthday.
Eric had gotten up before David even reached him.
“William Further! This is your life!” Eric yelled out.
William faked a smile. They weren’t really going to walk through his life, he wondered. There wasn’t much.
