Apoka Press formed in Saginaw, Michigan when two friends decided to start writing stories. R.W. Alan and Rip Peterson. A third friend, Marty Conner helped them with self-publishing and making the website.

Apoka Press took their name from metaphysical system used in the R.W. Alan story "The Many Deaths of William Further."
