It didn’t matter if the steps were magical or not because William didn’t lie about it. No one did ever get in trouble for the milk event.
But for years afterward, William wondered if the principal actually thought the steps had magical powers.
“Time for the next stop on the ‘This Is Your Life Tour.” Blindfold?” David asked.
“Let’s do it without the blindfold,” William responded.
Five minutes later, they arrived at the plaza where the Video Coop had once been. It was now an H&R Block and had been for at least the past fifteen years.
“I miss the Coop,” Eric said then chugged the rest of his second or third beer.
The men got out and walked around the plaza. William couldn’t remember the last time he had rented a movie. It must have been longer than fifteen years though. He didn’t think he was married when he last rented one. Possibly before Emily moved back after passing the bar exam.
They stopped outside H&R Block.
“We used to come here every Friday night for like 10 years,” David said as the three men looked through the window at the bored accountants.
“I remember renting some really stupid video games here,” William said. “Why did we rent a Noid video game?”
“Noid?” Eric asked.
“The Domino’s Pizza mascot,” William told him. “He was wearing all red and had long red ears.”
